Why did the dollar depreciate against the euro?

In this edition of Infocus, Stefan Gerlach takes on the strange case of the missing dollar strength. The depreciation of the US dollar against the euro since 2017 has led to much puzzlement. Following the election of President Trump, it was generally expected that the new administration would pursue economic policies, which would support the US dollar. Yet the opposite has happened.
